World of Warships will Release Sept. 17
My experience playing World of Warships so far has been incredibly addicting. I posted a few of my first impressions about the game a month or two ago when the open beta started.
Let me explain some of the beef I have with match mechanics and game modes. You are rewarded with experience based on how much damage you do to the enemy, not on whether or not you win. Winning in “Co-op” and “Random” matches is pointless. While this may be remedied with “Ranked” matches when the season starts at release we will have to wait and see.
Why winning doesn’t matter? In either of the current game modes it would benefit players to ignore base caps so as to maximize vessels destroyed. Have you ever been in a game when someone yells don’t cap their base let's take out that lone carrier?
Another side effect is the disincentive to play as a team. Why stick back and cover the carrier for my team when I can be up getting damage and kills giving me experience? Now I should note there is a difference between playing as a team and sticking together. Sticking together is a sure fire way of surviving longer and thus getting more damage and more kills. Sacrificing for the team to win covering an empty channel, covering the carrier or even protecting the base cap is pointless in “Co-op” and “Random” battles. The point to covering base caps is only to stop the other team from ending the game prematurely so as to maximize experience gains. Granted that is if experience is your goal I haven’t seen any bonuses for having a good win/loss ratio in the current game modes.
Someone correct me if I am wrong in my assumptions. Does their need to be a experience reward for winning in the current game modes otherwise it's just a simple team death match, remove all the base capping? Again we will have to wait and see how the ranked battles play out they will no doubt be more team oriented and winning will matter.
Tell me what you think.
