Getting Started in Classic World of Warcraft
To keep myself organized I like to layout a check list of sorts before I get started. These are my notes on getting started in Classic World of Warcraft. Taking a little time up front to set everything up will allow you a much better experience going forward.
Installing Client
As Blizzard's Classic World of Warcraft version is a ways out at this time check out this video to learn more about connecting to private servers.
Characters
First thing I do is create a mule or bank alt character. No need to return to the auction house to buy or sell just mail things off for less travel time.
After that I, at the least, create two other characters one main and one alt to gain rest bonus while leveling the other character.
It might also be a good idea to make a few other characters to save names that you would like. You can only create 10 characters on a server.
Interface
First time loading the client set up your graphics and adjust the camera distance.
The default camera distance in a vanilla wow client is quite close. You can change this using one these commands:
A whole novel could be written on keybindings. For getting started I like to change a couple things.
Shift strafe from Q and E to A and B.
Then map Q and E to spell bindings.
Also I like to find a convenient place for auto run.
Add Ons
A few general Add Ons I like to use with Classic World of Warcraft include:
Leveling Guides
WoW-pro guides has a lost of good text guides for individual zones look for the archive guides to find the old vanilla zone guides.
Joana's Vanilla Guides is a step by step Horde text guide.
In-Game Addon Vanilla Guide (MetaMap+BWP), Vanilla Guide has in-game step by step version of Joana's horde guide as well as an alliance step by step guide.
Other Resources
Vanilla Talent Calculator
Weapon Masters
Keys and Attunements
