World of Warships Open Beta: First Impressions
After watching the World of Warships open beta launch trailer I got interested. I was able to sign up and download the client easy enough. The co-op player team vs computer games you start out with eases you into the simple mechanics.
The stand out is the fun of it all. I have never played any other wargaming.net other titles like world of tanks or world of planes so this is my first experience playing one of their titles. So far I have been very impressed. Now I have only played through a few co-op games but I am looking forward to getting into some of the larger ships and playing the random pvp matches.
One issue I was worried about was whether or not it would run on my old PC. I am running a 7 year old machine I bought a new graphics card a couple years ago but still its an ancient machine. With the graphics turned down it seems to run fine. Once the maps have loaded once my load screen times go down the next game. I am not sure how it will run in larger skirmishes but for now it seems to be running ok. I think your internet speeds would be more of a problem than your old machine.
Speaking of connection speeds I haven’t had any lag spikes or other disconnection issues. On the whole the open beta seems stable for the most part. Granted I have only played through about half a dozen games but it's been a lot of fun so far and incredibly addicting.
Update: One issue I have been having is with the sound. I first noticed it when I plugged in my headset. When the game gets going and everyone is firing off shells the sounds overpowers itself and starts to produce a static noise. I unplugged my headset and noticed it does it on my desktop speakers as well.
